About

Hi, I'm Erin.

I'm a soapmaker and a mom. Ella's Soapbox began in 2016, in the months after my daughter Ella Marie died.

Ella lived with anencephaly for three and a half of the most beautiful days I've ever known, in December of 2015. In the wake of her death, I turned to my longtime hobby of soapmaking to bring me solace and peace. Five months after she died, I got on stage to tell people that she was here. I kept telling them, at markets and through soap, and in that space so many people shared, cried and loved. I knew the platform of Ella's Soapbox didn't belong only to me.

So every soap bar is named after a baby who is loved and remembered. Some are Ella's. Many belong to other families who trusted me with their children's names.

I care deeply about the ingredients and the science behind what I make. My soap is made in small batches with organic and natural oils, butters, clays and botanicals, scented with infused oils and essential oils. I don't believe in being afraid of long ingredient names. I believe in knowing what they are. That's what Ingredients Matter is about, and it's why I built Roll Call, so anyone can read a label and understand it.

Over the years, Ella's Soapbox has grown past soap. A sign that needed to be perfect led me to do what any self-respecting impulse-driven woman would do: I bought a laser engraver. Now there are engraved terracotta pots, propagation stations, journals and trays, all made in the studio with my kids.

It all comes from the same place. Love, loss and growth. People come into the studio and, even if they don't know it, become part of how I love her. They say her name, they listen to her story, and they take home pieces of her.

Thank you for being here.

Erin
