The verdict
Superhero
Superpower
A carrier oil that's been steeped with aloe leaf, so you get aloe in a form that can live in an oil.
Aloe vera oil's government name depends on what it's steeped in. Usually it's a carrier oil, like soybean oil, plus Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract, which is aloe vera's government name.
Superhero or supervillain?
Superhero. Its superpower is teamwork: a carrier oil and aloe leaf, brought together in one bottle.
What it does in my skincare
Aloe vera oil is a skin oil. It feels a lot like the carrier oil it's made from, because that's most of what's in the bottle, with aloe leaf infused into it.
The supervillain rumor
"Isn't aloe vera oil squeezed out of aloe?" No. Aloe gel is almost entirely water, so there's no oil to press out of it. Aloe vera oil is made by steeping aloe leaf in a carrier oil. That's not a trick; it's simply the only way aloe can come in an oil.
Where you’ll find it
In 1 thing I make.
Don’t judge an ingredient by its government name. Judge it by the science.
