The verdict

Superhero

Superpower

Its famous scent, which comes mostly from natural compounds called linalool and linalyl acetate.

Lavender's government name is Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Flower. Hard to blame it for going by lavender instead.

Superhero or supervillain?

Superhero. Its superpower is that scent, which comes mostly from two naturally occurring compounds, linalool and linalyl acetate.

What it does in my skincare

I steep dried lavender buds in oil to infuse it. The oil carries a soft herbal-floral scent, much gentler than lavender essential oil, and feels just like the oil it started as.

The supervillain rumor

"Why are the lavender buds on my soap brown?" Lavender buds almost always turn brown in soap. Nothing has gone wrong. It's just what the buds do once they meet soap.

Where you’ll find it

In 1 thing I make.

Usually seen with olive oil.

Don’t judge an ingredient by its government name. Judge it by the science.
