Arley

One hundred and one years before our family knew Ella, her great great uncle lived for two days. Arley Hafer was born on August 12, 1914. His parents didn't share much with their other children about the brother they would never know. I hope they shared with someone. I hope they found love and comfort in each other. I hope they were able to hold him and love him.

It breaks my heart to think of a time when people thought it was better to move on and try to forget. I hurt for my great grandparents and the silence they endured. I think of them and of Arley often. I hope they see the differences Ella is making and I hope they know that I have the courage to share her with the world because they and Arley came first.
