Black-and-white photo of baby Kacen cradled in his mother's arms beside a teddy bear

From Kacen's mom:

In October 2018, when I was 36 weeks pregnant with my second baby, we went in for a routine appointment to discuss our Birth plan, only to discover that our sweet baby boy no longer had a heartbeat. Our world was flipped upside down and for the next 24 hours we sat in the hospital praying for a miracle. On October 23rd, 2018 Kacen Allen McGee was born still. He was perfect in every way. From his brown curly hair down to his little toes. We got to spend 8 hours in the hospital with him, we got pictures taken, our family got to say hello and goodbye, and then the time came to be discharged empty handed. That was the hardest goodbye of my life. A few days later we had a small burial, and when I say Gods presence is what got us through this awful, gut wrenching time of our life, I mean it. The peace and calmness I felt in that funeral home preparing to bury our perfect baby can only be explained by one thing. God. It was like he had his arms wrapped right around us saying “I’ve got him.”

I turned to social media and wrote about loss and grief, and little did I know that in the years following I would help a handful of families going through the same unimaginable loss that I did, simply with my words, and the hope that they too will find their happiness again some day. I also became part of the same photography team that came in and took pictures of our boy, Halos of the St. Croix valley. Thankfully I have only been on a couple of calls since, but we have a great team that has captured the most precious memories for families going through the loss of their children.

So many people asked me “How?” And the reason is simply because of my sweet angel. I wanted to do this in remembrance and in honor of him and I don’t regret it one bit.

Six years later, not a day goes by that we don’t wonder who Kacen would be today. But we continue to keep him alive in our hearts. Our first daughter was two when we lost him, and we did get our rainbow baby just 11 months after he passed, and both of our daughters very often talk about their brother in Heaven. Our sweet boy will never be forgotten.
