Superpower
Natural plant pigments and polyphenols, including the tannins pomegranates are known for.
On the label, pomegranate powder is Punica Granatum Fruit Powder. In the produce aisle, it's the fruit full of jewel-red seeds.
Superhero or supervillain?
Superhero. Its superpower is its natural plant color. Pomegranates naturally contain polyphenols, including tannins and red pigments called anthocyanins.
What it does in my soap and clay masks
I use pomegranate powder as a natural colorant. Don't expect ruby-red soap, though. Anthocyanins change color with pH, and soap is alkaline, so the red shifts toward softer, muted tones. Natural colors like this can also fade or brown over time.
The color it makes
Here it is in 1 thing I make.
Usually seen with rose kaolin clay, white kaolin clay and activated charcoal.
Don’t judge an ingredient by its government name. Judge it by the science.
