Kaolin (and) Iron Oxides

Rose kaolin clay

The verdict

Superhero

Superpower

A gentle kaolin clay with a soft pink color that comes from naturally occurring iron oxides.

On a label, rose kaolin clay is just kaolin, sometimes with iron oxides listed beside it. The pink is the iron oxides that were already in the clay when it came out of the ground.

Superhero or supervillain?

Superhero. Its superpower is being one of the gentlest clays there is, with a pretty color built in.

What it does in my skincare

In soap, rose kaolin gives a soft, dusty pink color and a silky feel to the bar. In a clay mask, it soaks up oil on the skin's surface without feeling harsh.

The color it makes

Here it is in 3 things I make.

In the soaps named for Liam.

Usually seen with olive oil, coconut oil, castor oil and olive wax.

Don’t judge an ingredient by its government name. Judge it by the science.
