Kindergarten

Today we will drive Lennox through Kindergarten orientation - something he's been looking forward to with great wonderment. I love watching his life unfold. He is curious and he asks questions about everything. He is thoughtful about his interpretation of the world around him. I know I will enjoy watching him and helping him learn and grow as he takes these first steps down this path. This path that is wide enough for two. This path where the silence of a second pair of feet echoes in my heart and beats against my chest where grief and joy live together in quiet peace and in raging chaos. Just a few of so many steps she will not take. So many lives she will not touch. So many things she will not do. This is why I carry her. I walk in her honor and I share her unapologetically. Tonight, I will teach another soap class. To the people who are coming, it is an opportunity to learn a new skill, to have some fun, and to do something different. To me, it is so much more. I will share a piece of myself. I will welcome others into my space and give them something that is only here to give because my daughter was here to love. Milestones are filled with so much contradiction. They are so hard. I'm thankful for the space I've carved out in this world for Ella. I'm thankful that she continues to shine.
Ella was here.
