Switching Places

Three days before my C-Section, at Brad's parents' house, I ate 2 pieces of Chef Boyardee pizza that sent Ella and Lennox into a 2-hour somersault tournament. I was scared I was going into labor. Sitting in the recliner, hidden from the family by the Christmas tree, I was writhing in pain, trying to determine if I should tell someone to drive me to Kalamazoo. These babies moved all the time but never like this.
Throughout my whole pregnancy, Ella was on my lower left side, ...head down and Lennox was on the upper right, folded in half touching his toes.
I was never given any reason to think twice about their positioning.
Just before going into surgery, Dr. A came in to do a quick ultrasound "just to look". He was surprised and smiling! The babies had COMPLETELY switched positions. Their new positioning allowed Dr. A and the wonderful team at Bronson to perform the c section with a low transverse incision and birth Lennox first. Had the babies been in their original positions, they would have had to make a T-shaped incision in order to get both babies safely. This incision poses more risks both at the time of the surgery and in future pregnancies. With three days to go, my 2 babies, at 37 weeks, spent 2 hours completely trading places in my womb, drastically increasing our probability of a safe birth and of spending all of those three and a half beautiful, wonderful, love-filled days with Ella.
Ella was here.
