Superpower

The powdered leaves of the indigo plant, a natural colorant that gives soap shades of blue.

Indigo powder's government name is Indigofera Tinctoria Leaf Powder. It's the same plant that has been dyeing cloth blue for thousands of years.

Superhero or supervillain?

Superhero. Its superpower is blue, which is one of the hardest colors to get from a plant.

What it does in my soap

Indigo gives soap color, from soft denim blue to deep navy depending on how much is used. It's there for color, not for any skin benefit. Like most natural colorants, the shade can soften over time.

The color it makes

Here it is in 2 things I make.

In the soaps named for Everley and Liam.

Usually seen with olive oil, coconut oil, castor oil and olive wax.

Don’t judge an ingredient by its government name. Judge it by the science.
